Meet the Artist

I’m Evenlight Eagles.

The North Carolina artisan behind Primavera Leathers.

I hail from the tiny mountain town of Blowing Rock, NC, where my family goes back for many generations. I love these Blue Ridge Mountains for all I’m worth. Whether it's gardening, jumping in a cold mountain stream, getting in firewood for the winter or just sitting on the front porch listening to the Appalachians sing their sweet song...my favorite place to be is outside, breathing in the fresh mountain air.

I first began leather work right out of high school working for my uncle, master bladesmith, Daniel Winkler.  It was early in his career and he had just been asked to make the knives for the main characters in the film, The Last of the Mohicans.

My aunt, Karen Shook, began making sheathes and other leather work to accompany his knives, and I watched in amazement as their small time artisan endeavor took off to become a major success.  They have been my main mentors and I have worked with and for them in varying capacities over the years.

I graduated from nearby Appalachian State University with a BA in Interdisciplinary Studies focusing on Third World Studies and Sustainable Development. I return there from time to time to teach leather in the Crafts Enrichment Program. In addition to my leather work, I have a snappy smart high schooling diva daughter who also manages to keep me on my toes!
